RTW "The Gordon Gladwin Tour"

Sick of trying to use our United's frequent flier points, we decided to use them all up in one round the world trip.

Plaza San Martin

Finally found the illusive Faulklands War Memorial at Plaza San Martin where there's supposed to be a pretty impressive changing of the guard (unfortunately we didn't catch it....).

The now sadly neglected clock tower, a centenial gift from the British...

Mate in the Park

No protest on a Sunday! The Sabbath is strictly reserved for Church, mates (a herbal tea of sorts that everyone seems to be hooked on - uhumm...) & smooching in the park.

Le Bar

Having 1 (or 2) in honour of "The Girls" (you know who you are!). Very cool bar downtown in Centro; figured we were either too early or too late since there was some dude taking a nap on the couch...

Check out the cocktails at "Meridian 58" in Palermo - The most creative Long Island Iced Tea we've ever seen!

The Natives are back...

...& they're pissed off!... Don't mess with 13 million Porteneos (sp?) weilding pots & pans. Kudos to the Argentines for making themselves heard. The government's raised taxes, the farmers are on strike, the grocery shelves are beginning to run bare & the locals don't like it.

La Bomba di Tiempo

3/24 Easter Monday - Checked out La Bomba Di Tiempo at Konex Cultural Centre - Fantastic freeform acoustic percussion group! - Thanks for the tip Shan!

San Telmo & Puerto Madera

San Telmo - Home of the tango & the finger puppet mafia....

From there it's a short stroll to Puerto Madera - an area of wide canals & home of BA's famous pedestrian bridge. Based on a couple performing the tango, designed by architect Santiago Calatrana Valls.

Managed to fake our way through yet another lunch, knowing very little Spanish between us at "Asia de Cuba" & ended the night at "Milion" - Great bar & restaurant tooked away down a side street in an old Victorian house.

Thelonious

Even in BA you still run into industry people. Spent Good Friday at Thelonious Jazz Club with a couple we met from Seattle (Hi Lance & Tiffany!). V. cool live jazz - highly recommend it, only $16 US for a bottle of Bubbly - Woohoo!!!

Palermo

Discovered Palermo, the Soho of Buenos Aires. Awesome vibe, great little boutiques showcasing local designers & an AMAZING choice of rooftop cafes to choose from!...

Where American cars go to die... Hey Stewart we finally found the Plymouth!

Rabbit Food

Apparently this is what you get in Buenos Aires when you ask for a Caesar Salad with no Anchovies.... Lettuce with no dressing - Mmmmmm tasty

Recoleta

Recoleta - Apparently an area that Eva Peron said should be bombed along with it's resident bourgeoises is ironically where she seems to be most celebrated & is also her final place of rest. Recoleta cemetery was fascinating. A city of the dead filled with tombs from every era dating back to the 1820's - eerie & beautiful...

Dodgy Convenience Store Owners...

Beware dodgy convenience store owners! At night in BA, many of the little convenience stores & pharmacies stay open but you can only make transactions through a little hole in the grill the covers the front of the store. We wanted to buy water (sin gas) & after we got the water back to the apartment we found we had a fake 5 peso bill for change & a bottle of water that had already been drunk out of & closed up again - nice!

Buenos Aires - Argentina

Beautiful Buenos Aires... It was great to finally make it but we were sad to find that most flights to BA that originate in the States are night flights. So our first journey over the Amazon & the Andes were in the dark :-(

Reached our apartment in Barrio Norte early in the morning & crashed for the day. Venturing out at about 9.30pm to eat, we quickly discovered how unpredictable BA's weather is & a healthy storm rolled in & soaked us!

Made it to the restaurant "Gran Bar Danzon". Awesome wine selection & great food! The staff were really helpful as we tried to figure out what we could eat on the menu (being "pescatarian") & after a 3 course dinner with wine & coffee, we were blown away when the bill came to just over $70!

Finally Outta Here....

Wow could it have taken us any longer to actually get our shit together & get back on the road? Apparently not... Damn contractors! (Those of you in the know will know what we've been through...).

Anyway, 18th of March & here's Chris in Miami, he didn't look so happy 3 1/2 hrs later when we were still sitting on the tarmac in the plane though...
